Service Dispatcher
The Opportunity:
A great customer experience starts with strong communication and coordination. At Birnie Plumbing & Drains, our Service Dispatcher is a vital team member who prioritizes urgent customer needs, manages technician schedules, keeps customers informed throughout the day, and matches the right technician to the right job, ensuring that each service call runs smoothly from start to finish.
Key job tasks include:
- Learn the business and learn how to prioritize the most urgent customer calls.
- Manage the whereabouts and needs of technicians in the field.
- Ensure a quality customer experience by relaying detailed and accurate information to the technicians in the field.
- Record and report the service calls.
- Update customers throughout the day on the technician’s progress.
- Be professional and establish customer rapport.
- Participate in training so that you grow and develop as a professional.
Job Type: Part Time
Pay: $20 - $30 per hour

What We Need From You:
- Minimum two years experience as a dispatcher.
- Experience dispatching in the home service industry is preferred.
- You are a great communicator and are able to connect and build positive relationships with customers and your team.
- You are detail-oriented with the ability to multitask.
- You are highly organized with exceptional follow-through abilities.
- You have the ability to build trust, diffuse conflict and hold others accountable.
- You demonstrate a positive attitude and are willing to learn and grow.

Company History
In the 1920's John Birnie saw an opportunity in the newly developing city of Hamilton, Ontario, and started a sewer and cement business under the name of John Birnie Sewer and Cement.
The company earned a reputation for good work at a quality price and for caring about customers’ homes. In 1946 Thos. Birnie (John's Son) took on the business and put it in his name and shortly thereafter his sons (Roy Birnie & Bob Birnie) soon followed him into the business.
In 2000 the company was accidentally left out of the phone book and had to develop a strategy to help customers remember who to call in a STINKY situation, and that's where the phone number 5-Stinky came from.
In 2010 Roy and Bob's sons came into ownership with their dads, continuing the family legacy.
In 2025, in celebration of over 100+ years in business the company launched a new name and logo, paying homage to the company's history and dedication of service to the community. To this day, the business is still owned and operated by the Birnie family and includes other members of the family and staff that have made their careers with us.
